We are delighted to invite you to Plantlife’s virtual Annual Members Day on Saturday 14 September 2024 from 10am to 12pm. We are pleased to be hosting the event online, enabling more of you to join us.
This member-only event is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community, celebrate our achievements, and discuss Plantlife’s ongoing conservation work – all of which has been made possible because of your valued support.
We have an engaging agenda lined up, including special guest speakers and an interactive Q&A.

Speakers

Ian Dunn.

Ian Dunn, Plantlife’s Chief Executive

Plantlife’s Chief Executive, joined Plantlife in early 2020 after a four year stint as Chief Operating Officer at the University of Southampton. Previously, Ian was the Chief Executive of the Galapagos Conservation Trust (GCT), and before GCT, Ian was on the managing board of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). Prior to joining BAS, Ian spent nearly 25 years in business. Ian holds a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Sciences, an MBA and in 2014 was awarded a distinction for a Masters in Studies of Sustainability Leadership at Cambridge University. He is a qualified yoga teacher and is re-engaging with his creative side through oil painting and writing.

David Daniels, Plantlife Chair

David is the Founding Director of the MannionDaniels Group with companies in Africa, Asia and Europe. His work has focused on advising governments and donors on health sector policy and planning with a focus on fragile and conflict-affected states. Previously, David worked for the UK Department for International Development (now Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office) and the European Commission covering health, population and nutrition across Latin America, Middle East and North Africa and Asia regions. He has worked with non-governmental organisations such as MSF and HealthNet International and is a founding Member of AmplifyChange and the Menstrual Cup Coalition and is a trustee of the Bath & West Community Energy Fund. Originally trained as a zoologist, he has held a lifelong passion for natural history both at home in the UK and through his travels overseas.

Sarah Bird, Senior Project Officer for Species on the Edge Project for the North Coast of Scotland

Sarah Bird is one of our most far-flung UK staff, being based on the wild and beautiful north coast of Scotland. She is the Senior project officer for the Species on the Edge Project in the North Scotland Coast region.

Karen Inwood, Plantlife’s Global Strategy Lead

Since 2019, Karen Inwood, Plantlife’s Global Strategy Lead, has been developing Plantlife’s global advocacy for plant conservation– building a Global team and the policy and partnerships needed to maximise our impact on the global stage.  Currently based in Dorset, her 40-year career has focused on building organisations and leadership to tackle issues of environmental and social justice in the UK and Central America.

Emma Williams, Field Mycologist

Emma will take us on a whistle stop tour of the ‘rule’ breaking Waxcaps and other CHEGD+  ‘Grassland’ Fungi that truly are jewels in the crown for Coal Spoil Habitat.

Emma Williams is a highly skilled Field Mycologist with a passion for Coal Spoil and Colliery habitat & Conservation, identifying and studying Fungi found on these sites for over 10 years. Due to the Mosaic Habitat allowing high niche diversity, and in order to document them, Emma has become accomplished in identification of  smallest micro ascomycete, to largest of basidiomycete brackets, and ensembles such as CHEGD+ and has taken these skills across majority of UK habitats from Ancient Woodland, Peat Bog, Dunes etc . Emma shares this skill and knowledge through online platforms and delivering ID Workshops and Field training.
